Paulo da Silva Paraguayan Captain

Posted by: Mark | Comments (2)

New boy da Silva has signed for Sunderland as a relative unknown in these parts.

At 29, he’s been capped 53 times for his country (Paraguay) and has signed for Sunderland from Mexican club Taluca on a 3 year deal.

In 2007, da Silva was named in the South American team of the season and voted Mexico’s player of the year after leading his club to the league title in 2008.

He stands at 5′11, plays with composure and apparently has an excellent reading of the game. Let’s hope he continues the success he’s enjoyed in South America with the lads.

Cana Signs For Sunderland

Posted by: Mark | Comments (0)

I don’t really know much about this lad but from what i’ve read and what i’ve seen of him (yeah ok, youtube isn’t the greatest of resources to judge a player, you could probably make Kilbane look half decent if you put together a 30 second compilation) he looks like a bit of a nutter.

Running around the pitch, frothing at the mouth, crunching every player in sight (probably including his own) will no-doubt endear himself to the Sunderland faithful, especially if he manages to take out Murphy in the process ;)

Wreckless challenges aside, he’s apparently quite a composed player, a player who breaks up play, wins the ball and controls the pace of the game. I think he’s exactly what we need as we’ve severely lacked any sort of leadership in the centre of the field. We were bullied out of many games last season so Cana should be a welcome addition to the side, adopting a Roy Keane-esque role and dominating the midfield.

Here’s a short video to give you a jist of what he’s all about:
