boy wonder
Posted by: | CommentsInitially I had doubts he could actually be as effective in the middle as he is on the right. (see his skill and vision to set up Gyans goal down Wigan) but Bruce obviously sees him as a middle of the park player, hence the loan signing of Elmo (Elmo, its down the wing he’ll go……). It will be interesting to see how he develops in this role.
Either way it’s great to see a Sunderland lad pulling on the red and white stripes and not only holding his own, but excelling against sides such as Manchester Utd. Being a Sunderland supporter it comes natural to fear that should he continue to shine that we could have a battle on our hands to keep hold of his services. I think he has a little way to go yet, but should he add goals to his game I think we will be tested at some stage.
Thoughts on the lad?
New Forum
Posted by: | CommentsNew feature to the site which is there for all those Sunderland AFC supporters who have a keen interest in ensuring the Stadium of Light remains one of the best grounds in England for atmosphere. Here we can discuss ways of improving upon the match day experience (it costs enough so we might as well make the best of it) either through get togethers, discussing new chants or producing flags/banners. We also aim to get like the old attitude of solidarity between fellow fans back.

Points Dropped Against Manchester United
Posted by: | CommentsSunderland started well and we were on top for most of the first half. Man Utd struggled to get the ball off us at times and our dominance on the ball began to show in the final third. Cattermole played Malbranque in with a beautiful through ball, splitting the United defence open in the process but unfortunately Steed failed to beat Van Der Sar who did very well to protect his goal and prevent Man Utd from going one behind.
The next big chance fell to on loan Man City player Nedum Onuoha who reactively steered a Steed low cross towards goal from just outside the six yard box. It could have gone anywhere and we often see these type of chances smash into our own net. But it wasn’t meant to be and Man Utd were fortunate the ball deflected to safety off one of their defenders.
Sunderland continued to press on and Zenden was the next player to go close, smashing the ball off the post from outside the area. It just wasn’t our day. We should have been three up at half-time.
The atmosphere in the Stadium of Light was electric. It really has been something else this season. Long may it contine.
The second half was fairly balanced with Berbatov coming the closest for the visitors, sending a great effort slightly wide of the Sunderland goal.
Sunderland were very much back on top in the final moments and I could see us snatching all three points. Gyan’s had a spectacular bicycle kick saved but it wasn’t powerful enough to worry Van Der Sar who looks like he could go on for another ten years.
We played well but we’ve got to start turning these draws into wins regardless of the opposition. We’ve shown over the past five league games that we have an organised team who have the potential to do well this season.
It just goes to show how far we’ve come when we feel aggrieved for not beating Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd! But let’s face it, we’ve played four top teams (ok Liverpool’s form at the moment isn’t the best but they’ve still got a dangerous looking team) and we’ve outplayed the lot of them. Let’s hope we can keep up our fantastic displays and put a run of form together.
Next up Blackburn at Ewood. It’ll be interesting to see how we fair against a side that finished in a similar position to ourselves last season.
