Bruce Expects Much Of The Same At Wigan

By Mark

Steve Bruce has sent out a firm warning to his Sunderland players that they will be forced to “walk home” if they don’t perform against Wigan next week.

Sunderland beat Arsenal 1-0 on Saturday and Bruce expects his team to pick up where his team left off against Wigan. Wigan were beaten 9-1 away to Spurs yesterday and will no doubt want to put that heavy defeat behind them by getting some much needed points in the bag.

Wigan is always a tough place to go and in recent times our record against the Latics has made for poor reading.

Bruce said: “I have just said to them if we do not perform at Wigan I will kick all their a***s and they can walk home.

“But we are going into December and I can only think of Burnley in the second half and Birmingham when we have not played well, so two out of 13 suggests we are starting to get some consistency.

“The most important thing is our performances at home. Last year, it was a big big struggle. Last year, we only won six here. We have nearly done that already. It will take time, three, four six months, maybe a couple of years, but I am delighted when
I see the crowd today, 45,000 is fantastic. Am I ahead of schedule? Well I would have taken it at the start of the season.”

It should be a good day out next week, we’ve started the season very well. Bruce has brought some much needed organisation to the Sunderland team, we’re playing entertaining football and we’re scoring goals! Backed by 4-5,000 passionate Sunderland fans should make for a great away day.
