Kenwyne Jones On His Way Out

By Mark

After months of speculation surrounding his future it looks as though the Trinidad & Tobago international Kenwyne Jones is finally leaving Sunderland.

He’s had quite an indifferent time here, bursting onto the scene in his first game against Reading under then manager Roy Keane. He scored a fantastic goal, celebrated in style and was immediately accepted by the Sunderland faithful.

Unfortunately his form has not been the best, even more so in recent months. He’s found it difficult to find the net…it can be argued he’s had little supply, but he just doesn’t seem to be fitting in with our game plan at the moment (if we actually have a game plan).

I don’t think many of us wanted him to leave when Harry Redknapp was interested in him in January but after playing poorly for the majority of last season and offering little going forward this season I don’t think many Sunderland fans will be fussed about him leaving.

Physically he looks very dangerous but technically he is severely lacking. His first touch is poor, he finds it difficult to get the ball under control and for such a big player he rarely wins headers in the final third. Maybe another manager can get the best out of him but if we can get anywhere close to £15m we should be laughing (providing we bring in a better striker).

Aston Villa, Manchester United, Stoke City and Liverpool are the interested parties. If he does leave, I wish him the best of luck. Personally, I think we can do better (I will miss his goal celebration though!).

Feel free to add your comments and tell us what you think?

will be a disaster if he leaves!

those who dont rate jones will be haunted when he plays for a team who actually give him crosses to attack (as opposed to aimless hoofs up to him, with his back to goal).

very useful player and our squad is too small to start with.
I will be gutted if he goes as it will show we are still small time.

“i think we can do better”

i doubt it, especially if the likes of united are actually interested.
