Make The South Stand Into A Singing Section!
ByThis is a perfect opportunity for the club and most importantly us as fans to reinvigorate the ground and better the predominantly stale atmosphere we have become used to within the Stadium of Light.
I urge our fans to fully get behind this campaign, show your support for creating a large singing area in our ground and in doing so ensure that the Roker Roar does not fade and die.
“Passion, it lies in all of us, sleeping… waiting… and though unwanted… unbidden… it will stir… open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us… guides us… passion rules us all, and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love… the clarity of hatred… and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion maybe we’d know some kind of peace… but we would be hollow… Empty rooms shuttered and dank. Without passion we’d be truly dead.”
Let’s keep that passion stirring and create an atmospheric ground to be proud of, as we once were.

I’d love to see the south stand become our own Kop. One thing that would help would be to name the stand after something to do with the area or heritage of the club ‘the Roker End’ or ‘the Porterfield’, for eg. I’m not a fan of branded names for stands, but I guess it brings in extra revenue, but what bugs me most and which I don’t understand, is that some of our stands don’t even have names ie. ‘the west stand’. One of the special things about Roker Park was the names of the stands and the sense of community that brought.

The North Stand was the original ’singing secton’ over seasons armany vocal fans drifted nearer the away fans. This South stand idea is stupid and flawed. Its only half the size and will never be as loud as a full North stand. Stop the club being stupid and leta move the away fans to the SW premier where NOONE sits.

For a better atmosphere, why don’t we make the south stand a steward free area? :)

….In all seriousness though, I’ve always thought it was a massive mistake to have the main sing area stuck in a corner of the ground.
Singing tends to spread, like the mexican wave, to the people next to you. It’s hard to sing if you’re the only one!
At present, the singing stops at the away fans on one side, and the suits on the other. If the lads from the sw corner moved to the middle of the south stand, the singing would soon spread to the whole of the south stand, and beyond!

i think this is a great idea btw, i had a season ticket for ten years then stopped last year as i got bored of the oring atmospher in the ground, if the south stand is a success, i will join it and be part of it!!!!! haway the lads

I think this would generate a great atmosphere as it would be stretched right across the whole stand.
Something it would also do is stop all of the empty seats behind the goal that are (supposed to be) taken up by away fans, see it on MOTD and looks bad.
So can mainly just see positives for this proposed move.
Also just a suggestion for stand names, have them either after areas around Sunderland or legends (like the ones being sung at the games in the last few weeks) i.e. Charlie Hurley, “Sir” Niall Quinn, Gary Rowell, Ian Porterfield, Jimmy Montgomery.
