Sunderland Out Of The League Cup

By Mark

That’s our second defeat in only three days. Let’s hope the lads don’t make a habit of it.

Last nights result was hard to take as we created enough chances in open play to have won it without having to take it to penalties. Jones missed a penalty and Richardson looking a certainty to score in the closing stages but instead he hit the ball straight into the chest of Guzan.

It was a frustrating game but then again we all knew Villa would be a tough prospect to beat. Frazier Campbell and Jordon Henderson both played well, which is encouraging for the future. Henderson of course has broken into the first team due to the injury to Lee Cattermole and Campbell is pushing Jones for a place in the Sunderland team.

When the game eventually went to penalties I think we all knew it wasn’t going to go our way. But let’s not take away a great performance from the Villa Keeper Brad Guzan who saved 4 penalties!

McCartney, Zenden and Campbell have all picked up slight injuries, only time will tell if they’ll be fit to play against West Ham at the weekend.
