Wigan 1-0 Sunderland – We Just Didn’t Show Up
By
There’s not a great deal I’d like to say about this game. It really was an embarrassing show. Our players failed to turn up and the atmosphere from our fans was, well…awful. If you closed your eyes you’d have thought you were standing with a handful of people watching a Sunday league game (it really was that quiet).
The performance on the pitch from the Sunderland players was completely passionless. Wigan looked as though they wanted it more and battled to victory against a Sunderland team who were a far-cry away from the side that beat Arsenal last Saturday.
Scotland went close in the first half but his shot smashed back off the post. At the other end, Darren Bent very nearly scored after going through on goal and found himself one-on-one with Kirkland but Emmerson Boyce nipped in and made a fantastic last ditch challenge to prevent Bent from getting onto the ball.
Rodallega scored the only goal of the game. It came in the 76th minute after Scharner had lobbed the ball forward, Da Silva slipped and Rodallega simply eased the ball past Fulop from a tight angle. After that, Sunderland huffed and puffed but really didn’t create anything of any note. All in all it was a poor performance from beginning to end. The best team won.
All we want is for our players to turn up and give it 100%, I think most of them thought all they had to do was take to the field to beat Wigan yesterday. How wrong they were.
Well done Wigan, we move on. Haway the lads.
